The Wind of Change

I do love for learning new thing. New thing is a challenge to be beaten. There is a part that I have to beat the fear for being lost before trying. There is a part that I become richer so I can share more for other. There is a part "I respect my self more" that will put my self-confidence back into place.

I do love programming. Especially with device that connected to PC like X10 device, GSM card reader, etc. But I never do deep study in network before. Then such as serendipity, I work in a network provider company. I meet new devices and technologies that at the first sight seem complicated. The switch, router, modem; wireline, wireless; frame switching, ATM, packet switching; all are unfamiliar for me. So along with my big interest (and my ambition?), I begin learn them. Well, no perfect one can be skilled at all things. I know I can not gain knowledge of all that could be shallow. Instead, I think I can specialize in narrow enough stuff.

In the first year, I start work in department that maintain machine data and network management system server. I develop system application that can monitor network utilization, capacity and performance. This application also gather machine data such card type, port number and link points. It’s so fun to let the application automate all the manual process which was spent hours to be finished into short time execution. But still there is a little bit of boring task to do. Create the report! The report format is often changed, because the need of information is also changed. The customization is a must to do thing. A raw data can be performed into points of view that produce many forms. The best thing is aggregate function always available in almost everyway. Still bottleneck occurs someway.

In the second year, I was moved to another department. This one has to monitor the network capacity and anticipate network resources became running out. These resources are including device parts such router, card, memory, etc. I had to plan the procurement, monitor the stocks based on existing network, distribute them and repeat the process every three months. So, it is kind of spinning my ordinary way. From abstract world to real thing. From development to frequently repeated processes. From automation to decision making system.

Where will this wind drive me away? I just let my self walk along the path. At least I still found new things to be learned.
